The government of Jordan has extended the MOU signed with British Petroleum for the purpose of developing the Risheh gas field near the Iraqi borders. The MOU was supposed to expire on June 2, 2009 and was extended until the end of June 2009. Resources in Jordan have warned that the MOU may expire before a final decision is made regarding the development of the gas field. A chance to develop the feasible gas field could be lost if action is not taken as quick as possible. The total amount of investment is estimated at JD 240 million in its initial stage. The overall investment in all stages is estimated at JD 8-14 Billion. The MOU includes four sub agreements that address partnership, production, selling, and exclusivity.
